Every Christian knows that God wants us to be like Christ. God Himself is committed to doing this — even more than we’ll ever be. Romans 8:28-29 tells us,

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

As such, all of us Christian husbands should know that God wants us to be Christ-like in every way, including being a Christ-like husband to our beloved wives.

In this article we’ll talk about three practical ways to become more Christ-like towards our wives.

Without further ado, here are three things every Christian husband should do to become a Christ-like husband.

1) Seek Christ daily

Surely, no husband can ever become like Christ without knowing Him.

And so, the first thing that we husbands should do is to seek the Lord Jesus Christ and get to know Him intimately. 2 Corinthians 3:18 tells us that by seeking Him, we can be changed to become like Him:

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

We should take time to worship, pray, and read the Bible daily. We must remember that God should be above our marriages, not under. He must take precedence over our relationship with our wives.

That might sound weird to some, but it’s actually true. God should be number one, then our respective wives next. When we do this, we will see good results.

2) Seek to imitate Him

After seeking Christ the Lord, the next logical thing to do would be to imitate Him. Pretty simple, right?

Ephesians 5:1-2 tells us,

“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.”

This goes hand-in-hand with point number one above. The more we know Christ, the more we can be able to imitate Him. And the more we seek to imitate Him, the better.

3) Love your wife as yourself

Then here’s the last part: loving our wives as ourselves.

Ephesians 5:25-31 gives us a splendid explanation as to how we can do this:

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.””
